Earliere this week David Beckham posted a video on his Facebook account confirming the roots behind Harper Seven's name.
“Harper was a name that we’ve loved for a long time, you know, for a couple of reasons. One of the reasons is, um, Harper’s an old English name which we loved, and one of the other reasons, Victoria’s favourite book is To Kill a Mockingbird and the author was Harper Lee. Ah, and it’s a very strong, passionate book so that’s where Harper came from.”
Since David's post, sales for Harper Lee's book, To Kill A Mockingbird, have increased by over120% on Amazon UK, occupying the 38th spot on the bestseller list as of Tuesday July 19th.
I read To Kill A Mockingbird in high school and loved it. The novel is primarily based on social injustice based on race and how the innocence of children can be skewed or preserved pending on their moral education and upbringing. Rarely does the content of a novel provide a positive public service to its readership but Harper's Lee's To Kill A Mockingbird does just that.
This novel should be mandatory reading material in all high schools and since it is not, whatever method gets more people reading this novel is fine by me.
