Does Kim Have a Case?

I could be wrong but I don't think you can sue someone for looking like you, right?

On Wednesday July 20th, reality star Kim Kardashian filed a lawsuit against Old Navy for using a Canadian lookalike in its ads. She's seeking money for unspecified damages and wants to prohibit Old Navy from using the lookalike in the future.

Basically, she's afraid of people being confused. She does not want us thinking she is endorsing Old Navy when she has a competing clothing store, Dash.

So why can Kim do this without being laughed at? Her case is based on the fact that she is a celebrity. She has over five million fans on Facebook, eight million followers on Twitter, and that she is one of the most searched people online. Her lawsuit states that,

"[Kim] has invested substantial time, energy, finances and entrepreneurial effort in developing her considerable professional and commercial achievements and success, as well as in developing her popularity, fame, and prominence in the public eye."

Hmm.... I don't know if I'm sold on that, at all. If How I Met Your Mother has taught me anything it is that we all have a doppelganger out there and if they become successful, is it really thanks to us? Maybe... but doesn't that sound so arrogant?

It will be interesting to see how this one plays out. Take a look at the ad that's causing all this fuss. There's no denying it, they do look like each other:
