Super Romantic or Super Lame? Vancouver’s Kissing Couple Revealed

The picture looks like a fake right? I think so. Turns out it’s not! Whether it was staged or planned, that’s a different story.

Wednesday night was game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals between the Boston Bruins and Vancouver Canucks. The Bruins beat the Canucks in Vancouver and all hell broke loose. Rioters began a spree of violence and vandalism that lasted throughout the night, leaving many Vancouver natives heartbroken at the sight of their city in the morning.

Amidst all the violent behavior and destruction the above picture revealed two people publically embracing during the riots. The couple has been identified as 29-year-old Australian Scott Jones and his girlfriend Alex Thomas.

In an interview with CBC News, Jones and Thomas tell the reporter what led up to kiss. “I was starting to get really frightened because I’d never experienced anything like that before, and it’s really scary. I was upset, and I fell down, and didn’t really know exactly what was happening," said Thomas.

The couples describes how they attempted to leave the downtown area but were unsuccessful in getting by the crowd of people.

“We weren’t being aggressive towards [police] or anything like that. But eventually they passed over us. And that’s when we were on the ground. She was a bit hysterical afterwards, obviously, and I was just trying to calm her down,” said Jones. And so he did, with a kiss.

When CBC asked Jones about himself, he revealed that he is currently a bartender trying to break into acting and standup comedy. He also mentioned how some of his comedy routines were available on YouTube.

Maybe the kiss wasn’t as spontaneous or romantic as it seems. Rather, a means of getting attention?  Besides, when confronted with an angry mob of people, how many of us would say that our instincts would tell us to start making out on the streets?
