The annual MTV Movie Awards took place last night and once again, The Twilight Saga dominated in all categories the film was nominated, including Best Female Performance, Best Male Performance, Best Fight, Best Kiss, and Best Movie. Emma Stone took home the coveted popcorn trophy for Best Comedic Performance while Reese Witherspoon was honored with MTV’s Generation Award.
Aside from Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis groping each other, or Robert Pattinson and Taylor Laughtner 'making out', as usual, the fashion was my favourite part. Here are some of the best looks from the red carpet.
Selena Gomez in Giambattista Valli:
The pop singer looked extremely sophisticated in a Spring 2011 two-toned skirt and blouse. The skirt featured ruched detailing and the neutral color scheme really showcased a nice summer tan.
A side note- the turquoise pattern on the blouse is actually a photo print of moldings located at the Petit Trianon at Versailles. The historical and cultural detail undoubtedly boosts the sophistication of this look! Her choice in outfit and designer is intentionally making a statement- this teen pop star is growing up!
Emma Stone in Bottega Veneta:
Emma Stone looks phenomenal in a bustier dress with a surprising color combination. Shades of yellow and grey are layered underneath a black lace overlay that features a fringed hemline and a black bow that cinches her waist. The actress chose to accessorize with an orange clutch and pumps.
Leighton Meester in Balmain:
The actress is spot on in keeping up with trends for the summer, the first being metallic’s. The long sleeved, embellished mini dress from Balmain’s Fall 2011 collection is paired perfectly with a pair of Pierre Hardy ankle strap sandals, neutral makeup, and simple hair. Trend #2: two-toned hair that fades from dark to slightly lighter at the ends. This trend has also been seen on Mila Kunis, Rachel Bilson, and Minka Kelly.

Mila Kunis in Balmain:
The MTV Movie Awards are unique because the majority of looks we’ll see on the red carpet will be casual pieces with shorter hemlines. Mila Kunis looks amazing in her black Balmain top and colorful skirt. She completes her look with a pair of soft pink Charlotte Olympia <strong> pumps.
Elle Fanning in Dolce & Gabbana:
This floral romper is adorable! Not only is the outfit a perfect summer piece that suits the occasion, it is entirely age appropriate. The actress might be 13, but her fashion choices are years ahead of her time. She paired the romantic pink romper with a thin belt and matching D&G wedges with a similar floral pattern.
Emma Watson in Marchesa:
The dress is truly a piece of art. The embellishment and silver detailing at the shoulders and neckline is stunning against the white silk Marchesa mini dress.
Although I think Emma Watson is always adorable, I would have loved to see this look on someone else. Maybe someone with a tan?
