How many times have you watched The Godfather, Goodfellas, or Scarface? How long have you been waiting for a comparable mobster movie to be released? Well I think it’s finally here!

The biographical picture, Gotti: Three generations, is set to start production later this year. The film will be based on the real life events of John Gotti, an American mobster who became the head boss of the Gambino crime family in New York City in the late 1980’s. Producer Barry Levinson and writer Leo Rossi have been working closely with the mob boss’ children, Victoria and John Gotti Jr, to ensure the film is as accurate as possible in portraying the rise and fall of their father and how his children eventually turn their back on the mafia world.

The star-studded cast is already being finalized and will include John Travolta as John Gotti, Al Pacino as Neil Dellacroce, the Gotti family’s underboss, Kelly Preston as John Gotti sr’s wife Victoria and, Joe Pesci as Gotti sr’s friend, Angelo Ruggiero.

Rumors are circulating about Lindsay Lohan having a minor role as well as James Franco who was reportedly approached to play Gotti Jr. Am I the only one who thinks Franco would make a PERFECT mobster?

A release date is expected for late 2012.
