Does This Upset You?

On Thursday (May 19th) Selena Gomez was filming a music video in L.A. that featured a horse that was dyed pink. The situation is causing lots of commotion with animal rights activists and even other celebrities.

Singer Pink used Twitter to express her unhappiness, tweeting to her fans, “If there are any animal activists around Malibu- at Leo Cabrillo State Beach, there are horses being painted for a stupid music video. Shame”.

It didn’t take long for Gomez’ fans to lash back at Pink and for the singers rep to release a statement to People magazine defending her use of the dyed horse: “It was important to the Production Company, Record Label and Ms. Gomez that no animals were harmed and all proper precautions were taken…A non toxic, vegetable based powder paint was applied via an airbrush and removed with water. An official from the Humane Society was on set supervising.”

My problem with this statement is that it doesn’t address why the singer and her crew felt it was so important to dye the horse in the first place. Instead, it explains how the process was harmless and supervised; ignoring the potential stress it had on the horse. I think we have to agree that this act was unnecessary.

Whose side are you on?
