Annie (Kristen Wiig) is thrown off guard when she discovers her best friend Lillian (Maya Rudolph) is engaged and wants her to be maid of honor. Despite being broke and unfamiliar with matrimony rituals, Annie accepts the challenge, serving as the head of an odd bunch of bridesmaids. As the wedding approaches, Annie’s life spirals downwards in a series of comedic and outrageous events that will leave you laughing and cringing out of embarrassment for poor Annie.
Kristen Wiig explodes onto the big screen, successfully projecting a woman who is self-loathing, sarcastic, nervous, and insecure, yet somehow still endearing. Melissa McCarthy (Megan) channels a sex crazed tomboy so removed from reality she is able to possess the self-confidence that Annie lacks, becoming the unexpected guide that Annie desperately needs. Finally, Jon Hamm (Ted) tries his hand at comedy and does well. He plays a crass womanizer who gets by on his money and good looks. His brutal honesty and pompous sense of entitlement makes you hate him from the start, making his minor role memorable.
The comedy does not disappoint.
